The power goes off. Someone walks to the distribution board, pushes the switch back up, and everything starts again. Ten minutes later, click. Off once more.

At first, people often think the MCB itself has gone bad. Sometimes it has. More often, though, it is reacting to something happening in the circuit. People may type MCB drip or trip while searching online, but “trip” is the correct word. The breaker is cutting the supply because it has detected something unsafe.

The Circuit May Be Carrying Too Much Load

This often happens in kitchens and bedrooms. A heater, kettle, microwave, iron, air conditioner, or geyser may be running on the same circuit. One appliance alone causes no trouble. Switch on another, and the breaker drops.
