Privacy Policy

Last updated

OmniBuzz ("we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use theomnibuzz.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We try to keep this policy readable — if anything is unclear, get in touch.

The short version. We collect the minimum we need to run the platform. We never sell your personal data. You can delete your account at any time. We use standard security practices to keep what we collect safe.

Information we collect

You give us directly

  • Account information — email, display name, username, password (hashed), and optional profile photo.
  • Content you submit — articles, comments, profile biography, and any attached images.
  • Communications — messages you send through the contact form or in reply to our emails.
  • Payment information — if you subscribe to a paid tier, billing details are handled by our payment processor (PayPal or the regional gateway we route to). We do not store card numbers on our servers.

Collected automatically

  • Usage data — pages viewed, articles read, referring links, approximate country from IP. We anonymise IPs after 30 days.
  • Device data — browser type, operating system, screen size, for responsive design.
  • Cookies — session cookies to keep you logged in, preference cookies (theme, reading history), and minimal analytics cookies. We do not use cross-site tracking cookies.

How we use your information

We use the data we collect to:

  • Operate the platform — show you articles, save your reading history, deliver notifications.
  • Improve content recommendations — our Buzz Score engine uses anonymised reading patterns.
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions.
  • Communicate with you — account updates, article approvals, editorial responses.
  • Detect and prevent spam, fraud, and abuse.
  • Meet legal obligations when required by law.

Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal data. We share limited information only with:

  • Service providers — payment processors, email delivery (Brevo), cloud hosting. They are contractually required to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.
  • Law enforcement — if legally compelled, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of OmniBuzz, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers — if OmniBuzz is acquired, merged, or sold, your data may transfer to the new owner under the same privacy terms.

Your rights and choices

Access & Export

Download a full copy of your account data from your settings page at any time.

Correct & Update

Edit your profile, email, and account details directly in settings.

Delete

Request account deletion — we remove your profile within 7 days. Published articles become anonymous unless you ask us to remove them too.

Opt Out

Unsubscribe from non-essential emails at the footer of any message. Essential emails (security, billing) stay on.

If you live in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA — including the right to object to processing, the right to data portability, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights. Email [email protected] to exercise any of these.

Cookies

We use cookies only where necessary. You can control them in your browser settings, though disabling essential cookies may prevent you from logging in.

  • Session cookies — required to keep you logged in.
  • Preference cookies — remember theme, reading history, dismissed banners.
  • Analytics — first-party aggregated stats only; we don't use Google Analytics or other third-party tracking.

Data security

We protect your data with industry-standard measures: TLS encryption in transit, encrypted backups, access controls, and regular security audits. We store passwords as salted bcrypt hashes — not in plaintext. If a breach affects you, we will notify you within 72 hours as required by applicable law.

Children

OmniBuzz is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

International users

OmniBuzz is operated from India and hosted on servers in Europe. If you access the service from another country, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data in those regions. We apply the same privacy protections regardless of where you are.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the homepage and by email to registered users at least 14 days before they take effect. The date at the top of this page always reflects the latest revision.
