In a commendable initiative to promote health, hydration, and community awareness, Mukti, a leading NGO in South Bengal, successfully distributed thousands of bottles of its clean drinking water brand, Mukto-Dhara, during the vibrant Purbasridharpur Fair in South 24 Parganas. The distribution, which coincided with a major public gathering, aimed not only to quench thirst but also to raise awareness about safe drinking water and environmental responsibility.

As temperatures soared and visitors gathered in large numbers for the fair’s cultural programs, food stalls, and exhibitions, Mukti’s distribution of Mukto-Dhara was a refreshing and much-needed gesture. The initiative was part of Mukti’s broader mission to promote public health through sustainable community engagement.

What is Mukto-Dhara?

Mukto-Dhara, which means “free-flowing stream” in Bengali, is a social impact drinking water initiative launched by Mukti to provide safe, accessible, and affordable drinking water to rural and underserved populations. It is produced in a modern water purification unit managed by trained local staff in Purba Sridharpur.

This community-driven solution addresses serious challenges such as waterborne diseases, arsenic contamination, and saline water intrusion — problems that are common in the Sundarbans and surrounding coastal areas. Through Mukto-Dhara, Mukti ensures that clean, tested, and mineral-balanced water is available to villagers at an affordable cost, with profits reinvested into local development programs.
