Despite battling illness, Jamal Murray proved once again that he's built for the postseason spotlight. The Denver Nuggets guard delivered 25 crucial points Thursday night to lead his team to a 119-107 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals. With the victory, the defending champions force a Game 7 and keep their hopes alive for a repeat title run.

Murray’s Heart, Jokic’s Power, and Strawther’s Spark

There was never a question in Murray’s mind about whether he’d suit up. “Absolutely not,” he said postgame when asked if missing Game 6 was a possibility. His toughness set the tone early — opening with a four-point play and energizing the crowd with a step-back three to start the fourth quarter.

But Murray wasn’t alone in carrying Denver. Nikola Jokic continued his MVP-caliber campaign, recording 29 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists. The two-time MVP was a force in the paint and the primary playmaker, as always.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was second-year guard Julian Strawther. Coming off the bench, Strawther dropped a career playoff-high 15 points — all in the second half. He was a spark plug, hitting a pair of timely 3-pointers and adding tough defense and hustle plays.

“Julian played huge for us, made real big shots,” said Aaron Gordon. “I don’t think that’s something they game-planned for.”

Thunder Falter on the Road

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was spectacular for Oklahoma City, scoring 32 points and doing everything he could to close out the series. However, the Thunder lacked the secondary support they needed. All-Star Jalen Williams had a rare off night, finishing with just six points on 3-of-16 shooting.

It was a disappointing showing for a Thunder team that had only lost back-to-back games twice all season. Now, they face their first true elimination game of this playoff run — a win-or-go-home scenario in Game 7.

“Credit Denver — they threw a punch tonight,” said Thunder coach Mark Daigneault. “Both teams have done a great job of standing back up. We need to do that on Sunday.”

Nuggets Find Depth at the Right Time

While Jokic and Murray provided the foundation, Christian Braun stepped up with a career-playoff best 23 points, giving Denver the kind of depth they’ve needed all series. The Nuggets finally looked like the deep, balanced squad that won the 2023 NBA Championship.

The game also featured a bizarre moment when Strawther lost a dental crown during a scramble, causing a delay as a ballboy retrieved the tooth from the court.

Aaron Gordon, who tweaked his hamstring late in the fourth quarter, insisted postgame that he’ll be ready for Sunday. That’s good news for a Denver team that has been playing every other day since April 29 and finally gets two days off.

“The guys in there looked like they were happier to have tomorrow off than they were about going to a Game 7,” joked interim coach David Adelman.

Winner Takes All in Game 7

The stakes couldn’t be higher. Game 7 will take place in Oklahoma City, where the Thunder will have home-court advantage. The winner will advance to face the red-hot Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals.

Denver’s championship experience versus OKC’s youthful resilience — it’s all on the line Sunday.
