Elevating Dental Education with 4KIP200 HDMI Distribution System

In the King Fahad Medical City, Saudi Arabia, a prominent dental training school is dedicated to providing high-quality education for aspiring dentists. To facilitate effective teaching, the institution required a robust audiovisual distribution system in a 200-square-meter multimedia training classroom. The setup needed to support real-time teaching, enabling students to observe detailed dental procedures on 50+ displays, and allow the recording of lectures for future reference. The system had to integrate several input sources for presentation purposes, transmit high-definition visuals of simulated dental operations across all screens, and support professional video recording for documentation.

The Challenge

The school faced a significant challenge in implementing a complete AV distribution system while ensuring seamless live demonstrations and video recording. The classroom was divided into two key areas: the lecture zone and the student practice zone. In the lecture zone, two room PCs were available for teaching, while instructors also frequently used other input devices for presentations. The student practice zone featured over 50 displays, each paired with a dental model and surgical equipment.

The challenge was to distribute three audiovisual sources across all displays while simultaneously capturing the instructor’s demonstrations via a high-resolution camera and microphone. This dual requirement — real-time teaching and professional recording — called for a powerful and well-integrated solution.

Technical Assessment

The project was entrusted to Navadha Enterprises, an Indian AV installation company renowned for dental training setups. After assessing classroom dimensions, transmission distances, and display requirements, Navadha recommended an AV over IP solution for maximum efficiency. The AV Access 4KIP200 HDMI over IP system was selected due to its plug-and-play capability, ease of setup, and zero configuration requirements for the Ethernet switch, simplifying control for the school’s staff.

In addition, a 4K USB camera with a 120-degree ultra-wide-angle lens was required to capture dental demonstrations and lectures with exceptional clarity. The AV Access BizEye 80 USB camera was chosen as it met these criteria.

Furthermore, a video capture card was needed for audio-video recording and mixing, allowing course materials and instructor commentary to be seamlessly recorded onto a computer. AV Access also provided a compatible product — the 4KVC00 video capture card. Based on these evaluations, the final purchase included:

  • 3 units of 4KIP200E HDMI over IP encoders
  • 53 units of 4KIP200D decoders
  • 1 unit of BizEye 80 USB camera
  • 1 unit of 4KVC00 video capture card

The Solution

The finalized AV setup comprised:

  • 1 desktop and 2 additional input devices for teaching
  • 3x 4KIP200E HDMI over IP encoders
  • 53x 4KIP200D HDMI over IP decoders
  • 53x displays for student observation
  • 1x BizEye 80 USB camera
  • 1x 4KVC00 video capture card
  • 1x Third-party headphone
  • 1x Gigabit Ethernet switch and 1x wireless router

The desktop and other input sources were installed at the lecture podium and connected via HDMI cables to the rack-mounted encoders. The gigabit Ethernet switch managed the entire AV system, allowing all codecs to communicate smoothly. Each decoder, installed at the student workstations, received the transmitted audiovisual signals and displayed them via HDMI connections.

For recording, one PC was linked to the 4KVC00 video capture card, which processed inputs from the third-party microphone and BizEye 80 camera. This system ensured that both the computer-generated presentations and real-time dental demonstrations were recorded efficiently. The instructor utilized third-party recording software for content preservation, while the VDirector app on an iPad facilitated seamless AV source switching.

Results

The AV Access solution provided an advanced audiovisual distribution system, delivering crystal-clear teaching materials to all 50+ student workstations. The live surgical demonstrations were displayed in high-definition, ensuring students could observe minute procedural details. Additionally, the recording system allowed instructors to document lessons for future reference, enhancing educational accessibility. The centralized control system ensured effortless AV management, improving overall teaching efficiency.

Conclusion

The AV Access 4KIP200 series HDMI over IP solution is a perfect fit for multimedia classrooms, delivering reliable AV transmission in large-scale educational environments. It seamlessly meets requirements for AV signal extension, distribution, switching, centralized management, and visual control, supporting video wall configurations up to 8×8. The 4KIP200E HDMI encoders and 4KIP200D decoders work together to create a flexible, scalable IP matrix system.
