Criss wynters is passionate about Native American culture and narrative traditions. She proudly announces the release of her first children's book, Bean Women. This engaging and educational story introduces children aged five and up to Native American traditions and culture, revitalizing old folklore in a way that is both accessible and captivating.

Bean Women is a beautifully written tale that centers around the strong and resilient character of Bean Woman, who is approached by three potential suitors—Mountain Lion Man, Deer Man, and Corn Man—each representing important elements of Native American culture and mythology. Characterization of Bean Woman and how her suitors are developed in the story are profound relationships of people to their environment as well as traditions that are passed on from generation to generation. The story is, therefore, a framework into Native American folklore and insights into cultural identity, perseverance, and reverence for nature.

The inspiration for Bean Women came from Wynters’s desire to reconnect her own children with their Native American roots, which she noticed were becoming distant due to modern societal pressures. As a mother, Crystal wanted to find a way to pass down the rich cultural history and values she had grown up with, ensuring that her children—and others—would understand and appreciate the importance of their heritage. Bean Women is the result of this mission, designed to spark curiosity and pride in young readers by sharing the wisdom and beauty of Native American traditions.

"I wrote Bean Women to give kids the opportunity to learn about the power and beauty of their cultural identity, to help them not lose sight of their own strength because of any obstacles they face, Criss wynters says. “The story is not just about Native American culture. It is about teaching lessons such as resilience, respect for nature, and importance in staying true to oneself.”

The stunning illustrations that will bring the story to life are done with colorful, culturally significant artwork, reflecting the themes of the story. The illustrations become an introduction to Native American art styles, further making this book an educational work. By incorporating traditional symbols and colors, the artwork ensures that Bean Women is not only an engaging read but also a culturally enriching experience.
