What should you check before choosing a belt conveyor manufacturer?

1. Do they design around your material?

Give them your bulk density, lump size, moisture and abrasiveness. Coal, cement and grain need different belts and speeds. A fixed catalogue size is a warning sign.

2. Can they show their capacity calculations?

3. Do they manufacture in-house?

In-house fabrication gives better control over quality and delivery time. Visit the workshop and see how pulleys, frames and idlers are made and tested.

4. Which components will they use?

Check the belt type, idler bearings, pulley lagging, gearbox and motor brands. Get them in writing so nothing is swapped later.

5. Have they worked in your industry?

Ask for three references from similar plants, such as the industries we serve. Call at least one customer and ask about breakdowns and delivery.

6. What happens after installation?

Ask about spare-parts stock, service response time and commissioning support. A slow supplier after the sale costs you in downtime.

7. Is the quotation clear and comparable?

A good quote lists specifications, scope, exclusions, warranty and delivery schedule. Compare two or three quotes line by line, not just by price.

Take a plant moving 150 tonnes per hour of limestone (illustrative). Supplier A quotes a standard 800 mm belt at a low price. Supplier B asks about lump size and moisture, then proposes a 1000 mm belt with impact idlers at the loading point. Supplier B costs more, but it avoids belt damage and spillage.
