CUET is one of the most popular entry-level exams for undergraduate courses nationwide. The official notification contains all the essential details about the exam, like the CUET syllabus, CUET exam pattern, CUET exam date, and much more. Through this article, we shall look at the existing trends in the CUET exam.


CUET Syllabus: CUET Participating Universities

The CUET exam is administered for admission to 44 central universities across India. The CUET syllabus does not differ as per university. Thousands of students are expected to sit for the exam each year. CUET 2025 is scheduled for 21 May 2025. The official notification will be released. There is a standard test for admission to all the CUET participating universities. However, the courses offered and the CUET eligibility criteria vary from university to university. The candidate shall check the official website of the interested universities to fetch further details about courses and the eligibility criteria. CUET Syllabus: CUET Eligibility Criteria

NTA has laid out CUET eligibility criteria. Basic eligibility for Undergraduate programme admission through CUET 2025 are:

  • For general category candidates, the candidate must score at least 50% at +2 level, and for SC/ST candidates, 45% is needed.
  • The aspirant must have opted for the subjects in his/her 12th Grade according to the course he/she wishes to enrol in.
  • For course-specific eligibility, aspirants can check the university's official website where one is willing to take admission.


CUET Syllabus:

The CUET Syllabus is defined section-wise and subject-wise. The exam included the following sections:

  • Language Test: Section IA
  • Language Test: Section IB
  • General Test: Section II
  • Domain Test: Section III

The first three sections are standard for all CUET-appearing students. The last section, the domain test, is determined by the subjects you choose. For example, if a candidate is willing to pursue BSc. Mathematics from one of the CUET participating universities, he/she shall select Mathematics as one of the subjects from the subjects offered under the domain section.


CUET Syllabus: Domain Test

The domain test aims to assess the subject knowledge of the candidate. The subjects offered under the domain test include:

  • Accountancy/ Book-keeping; Biology/ Biological Studies/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry; Business Studies; Chemistry; Computer Science/ Informatics Practices; Economics/ Business Economics; Engineering Graphics; Entrepreneurship; Geography/Geology; History; Home Science; Knowledge Tradition and Practices of India; Legal Studies; Environmental Science; Mathematics; Physical Education/ NCC /Yoga; Physics; Political Science; Psychology; Sociology; Teaching Aptitude; Agriculture; Mass Media/ Mass Communication; Anthropology; Fine Arts/Visual Arts (Sculpture/ Painting)/Commercial Arts; Performing Arts – (i) Dance (Kathak/ Bharatnatyam/Odissi/Kathakali/Kuchipudi/ Manipuri (ii) Drama- Theatre (iii) Music General (Hindustani/ Carnatic/ RabindraSangeet/ Percussion/ Non-Percussion); Sanskrit


The candidates can choose a maximum of 6 subjects from the choices provided. The candidates must select the subjects carefully. The syllabus for the domain test is determined subject-wise. The candidates must check the syllabus according to their subject choices for the test. The syllabus for some of the subjects is given below.


CUET Syllabus for Physics:

Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics, Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Atoms and Nuclei, Electronic Devices and Communication System.


CUET Syllabus for Accountancy:

The three main topics are Accounting for NGO and partnership firms, Computerized accounting systems and Company accounts and Financial statement analysis.


CUET Syllabus for Mathematics:

Linear Programming, Probability Distributions, Differential Equations, Integration and its applications, Calculus, Algebra, Relations and Functions, Vectors and three Dimensional geometry, Number, Quantification and Numerical Applications, Index Numbers and Time based data, Financial Mathematics.

CUET Syllabus: Language Test

Like the domain test section, the candidates are also offered choices in the language tests. The candidates must choose one language from each section, i.e. Section IA and Section IB.

The languages included in section IA are: English; Hindi; Telugu; Kannada; Malayalam; Tamil; Marathi; Urdu; Odiya; Assamese; Punjabi; Bengali; Gujarati. (13 Languages to choose from).

The languages included in Section IB are: Konkani; Bodo; Dogri; French; Nepali; Persian; Italian; Arabic; Sindhi; Spanish; German; Russian; Japanese; Chinese; Tibetan; Kashmiri; Maithili; Manipuri; Santhali; Sanskrit. (20 Languages to choose from).


CUET Syllabus: General Test

Even though the CUET syllabus is not defined in terms of topics and concepts, looking at the previous year's papers, the trends can be understood. The question appearing in this section will be based on the following aspects:

  • General Knowledge; Current affairs;
  • General Mental Ability;
  • Numerical Abilities;
  • Quantitative reasoning (Simple application of basic mathematical concepts arithmetic/algebra/geometry/mensuration/ statistics taught till 8th Grade);
  • Logical and Analytical Reasoning.
