A scholarship is something that is awarded to deserving students in the form of financial aid. Scholarships can be provided by private and public organizations alike, all kinds of educational institutions as well as the Government. To clear a common misconception, a scholarship is presented to the students that prove themselves to be meritorious or talented in certain fields, but when financial aid is given to students who are financially in need of it, is known as a bursary.

The APJ Abdul Kalam Scholarship is a scholarship that is given out by many organizations, educational establishments, and by different state governments, etc. The scholarship was named after the late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in order to honor his memory and his passion for children. Dr. Kalam had once said, “Creativity in children leads to a culture of excellence.” This could not be said any better. A future can be changed for the better and directed toward incredible progress if the children of today are raised to embrace their imagination and creativity.

In the fast world of technology and computers that we live in, it is no surprise that the current generation of youngsters is tech experts at such a young age. Their proclivity towards all things digital, gadgets, apps, and other such gizmos is completely understandable. These interests shape them and make them adept and capable at these kinds of tasks. The APJ Abdul Kalam Scholarship aims to encourage and support this hunger for all things digital by helping such high school students channel their energies in the right direction of course.

One of the schools offering this scholarship is the Global Indian International High School of the Global Schools Foundation (GSF). The scholarship is open to students from grade 1 to grade 12 and is applicable for the CLSP (Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme), CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), and the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) curricula. It has a 1 year tenure period and is awarded to the students with technology-based talents.

Here are some of the criteria that must be met in order to avail of the Abdul Kalam Scholarship:

  1. First and most important, the student must be a Malaysian resident. (PR/ Dependent Pass/ Student Pass Holders)

  2. The student must have been represented at a national, international, or regional platform at least in any one among the following aspects – 

  3. Has written a paper, a thesis or has published works or documents

  4. Has designed, developed, invented, or created a device or mechanism. This may be related to AI (Artificial Intelligence), VR (Virtual Reality), Coding, Creating apps, Robotics, etc.

  1. Present suitable proof or evidence of the said paper, thesis, invention, etc.

  2. Academic records for the prior 2 years

After this process, the student shall be contacted via email in under 10 days and given further details.
