Which Flower is associated with Ramadan
Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, is observed this month all over the globe with fasting, prayers, and unique activities and customs, much like the rose, which can be seen blooming in gardens and on the slopes of practically every continent. Ramadan rituals often include the giving and receiving of Ramadan flowers.
A Rose for Ramadan
The genus Rose contains between 100 and 150 distinct species and is indigenous to four of the world’s seven continents. From 500 B.C., the classic five-petaled wild rose was cultivated for its decorative value in China, Persia, and the Mediterranean. The early hybrids resulted in close to a thousand distinct varieties of roses today, and their existence is attested to in art, literature, and artifacts from the period. Today’s roses come in a wide variety of colors, forms, and names, each adding to the Flower’s allure and mystery, just like the many cultures that contribute to the global expansion of Islam.
Meanings of Roses
Red roses symbolize intense love, pink roses stand for friendship and gratitude, yellow roses represent happiness and companionship, and white roses represent purity and modesty in the language of flowers. During the holy month of Ramadan, lanterns are sometimes strung as decorations, and a rose of a golden hue is a fitting focal point. There are several varieties of purple roses, but the “Ascot,” “Blue Curiosa,” or “Claude Brasseur” would all be appropriate hostess gifts or table decorations for an Eid celebration.
