What is Professional Review CIOB
The CIOB Professional Review is the last stage to attain Chartered Membership for most candidates. It evaluates that you have the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience in the three main competency areas. These three main areas of competence are management, occupational and professionalism. When you pass your assessment, you will attain the MCIOB status, which stands for a Chartered Member.
How to apply for this review:
Academic and experience requirements:
You must fulfill the academic eligibility requirements with at least 3 years of related work experience. However, the requirement can be five years if your qualification is not in the built environment or is a non-honours degree before. Fulfilling this requirement is a must before you start applying.
It is a must for you to hold a Level 6 (degree) level qualification or higher to meet academic eligibility.
Membership:
You need to already be a non-chartered member (Applicant) of the CIOB. If not an Applicant member yet, register for an online account. After that, you should apply for membership.
Professional Review form:
You need to download a form (read below to know which form to download).
Guidance notes:
Read the guidance notes that you will get along with your application form. You will also come to know the supporting documents you need to submit with your application. For instance, submit an up-to-date copy of your resume and a current record of your CPD.
Verification:
The application must be endorsed by your line manager, a client or a construction professional knowing you very well.
Which form is right for you?
There are three types of Professional Review forms, and the one you need is dependent on your qualifications and experience.
When you have joined the CIOB at the Applicant grade, you can pick the form you find right for you.
The Application Form is a PDF document. Therefore, make sure that you utilize an official programme such as Adobe Reader. Doing it will allow you to save the information you have put in the document.
Don’t use a browser when you complete your application. Using a browser may lead to the information you put in being lost. You are advised to download the document. After that, open it with a PDF reader.
We recommend relying on Adobe Reader, which is free to download from www.adobe.com.
Professional Review for those who are working in the industry:
It is the most common Professional Review form for every applicant. However, it is not common for those with selected Level 7 NVQ Diplomas or those working in the academic field.
NVQ Professional Review:
This route comes with a much shorter form for those with NVQ7 or SVQ11. If having a different NVQ or other qualification, you have to fill in the Industry route form.
For eligibility to take the NVQ route, satisfy both of the following conditions:
- Your NVQ is below 3 years old
- Your assessor was a CIOB Chartered Member at the time of your assessment
If both of these conditions are not fulfilled, complete the Industry Professional Review.
Professional Review for academics:
It is a tailored route suitable if you are a lecturer, teacher or researcher. Besides that, it is the right one if you don’t have direct experience of working on site. Or, you have not worked on site for a while.
CPD policy:
As a CIOB member, you agree to complete CPD in each subscription year. The purpose to do is to adhere to Rule 10 of the Rules of Professional Competence and Conduct. If you are a retired member, you don’t need to take up CIOB CPD.
Members’ feedback suggests that some structure around meeting CPD requirements would be useful. A working group of members reviewed CIOB’s approach and has developed a policy providing clarity, support and guidance.
From 2023, all members will undertake a number of development activities focusing on ethical practice as given in the policy.
The CIOB remains committed to offering members appropriate learning content for free, as a part of their member benefits.
Different types of activities will accrue points. They may be attending events seminars and conferences and reading magazines and websites or researching new and innovative methods. Besides that, they can also be upgrading your membership or doing formal courses.
