What is Multiple Chemical Sensitivity?
Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) is a medical term for a chronic condition characterized by symptoms that affect various organ systems and reoccur in response to low levels of exposure to different chemicals. When these chemicals are removed, the symptoms either improve or disappear. Some defining symptoms include headaches, burning in the eyes, nose, or throat, memory or concentration problems, nausea, muscle aches and pains, vertigo, breathing problems, and exhaustion. The symptoms of MCS are similar to those of other conditions like fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, which makes diagnosis more difficult.
