What Grade Levels are Available at GIIS?
Since its inception in 2002, GIIS has focused on providing outstanding education to students worldwide. This has translated to it being a leading international school offering Indian and international curricula in different parts of the world.
18 years down, there are 22 Global Indian international schools or campuses in 7 different countries- Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Japan, and the UAE. The school supports every aspect of development from early childhood to secondary education in 4 different levels;
Kindergarten
The kindergarten level is designed for 2 to 5-year-old kids under the Global Montessori plus program. The award-winning program is a marriage between the Maria Montessori and pre-school methodology pioneered by GIIS to include the best practices of modern learning. Kids at this level learn literacy skills through multi-faceted learning methods, play, and care programs.
Primary school
The primary school level caters to grade 1 to grade 5 students under the CBSE or Cambridge Lower Secondary (CLS) programs. This level empowers students to start taking responsibility for their own education by fully participating and applying what they learn to their life. Many students at the primary level follow the CBSE curriculum because it’s the most recognized back in India, and it will be easier to continue if you move back. However, CLS comes in handy for grade 6 and 7 students who want to do an internationally recognized curriculum and focus on critical thinking, problem-solving, and inquiry-based learning.
Secondary school
The secondary section sets the stage for high school, and it starts from grade 6 to grade 10. Like the primary school, secondary students have a choice of two programs-CBSE or IGCSE. CBSE prepares students for competitive exams and applying knowledge to real-life challenges, while Cambridge IGCSE helps students who may want to pursue international education in the future have a jump start.
Designed for ages 11 to 15, secondary school is where students build a strong academic foundation while still working on their mental and physical growth. With a good balance of local and international curricula, students are well prepared for the next phase.
High school
Finally, GIIS has a high school level for grade 11 and 12 students who want to go to university. This level is only for students who did the local CBSE curricula because IGCSE ends in grade 10.
The focus of the high school program is to develop the cognitive, emotional, and spiritual facets of teenagers. It also revolves around skills-based learning and self-reflection as these students are faced with real-life choices of careers. Most notably though is how this level pays attention to digital education and STEM programs.
There you have it, people. GIIS starts from kindergarten, and then from grade 1 to 10, or grade 12 depending on which curricula you are following. If a student misses a big part of the year for whatever reason, the Bridge Programme is there to help them catch up with the others as quickly as possible and make up for the lost time.
GIIS also offers value-added programs such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths (STEM), and math! To equip students with a greater understanding of the 21st-century’s most demanded subjects.
