In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a multi-step fertility treatment. The five key stages of the IVF process are:
Ovarian Stimulation:
Fertility medications are used to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Monitoring is done through ultrasounds and hormone level checks.
Egg Retrieval:
Mature eggs are retrieved from the ovaries using a specialized needle guided by ultrasound.
Fertilization:
The retrieved eggs are mixed with sperm in a lab, where they are monitored for fertilization and early embryo development.
Embryo Transfer:
One or more embryos are transferred into the uterus, typically 3-5 days after retrieval, in hopes of implantation.
Pregnancy Test:
Around 2 weeks after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is done to determine if the IVF was successful.
It’s important to note that the IVF process can vary slightly from person to person based on individual factors and the protocols used by the fertility clinic.
