Ways to Motivate School Students Post Re-Opening Of The School
“No more pencils, no more books/ No more teacher’s dirty looks/ Out for summer/ Out till fall/ We might not come back at all/ School’s out forever/ School’s out with fever”.
It seems these lyrics of Alice Cooper have come back to haunt us.
There is a serious need to motivate people and bring them back on track. They have lost their interest and passion. It will be tough for them to catch the momentum just like prior to the pandemic.
Teachers have a crucial role to play as they are the one that can bring them students out of their depressed mindset. They need motivation from their teachers and parents.
Let’s talk about some ways to motivate students.
- Foster a growth mindset in the classroom
You need to encourage their smallest of achievements. Students who score well need to be awarded but the students who attended all the online classes must be appreciated. This will encourage others to be more regular.
As students are coming back to school, encourage their efforts and achievements with a glass award. This will make them feel valued and will incredibly boost energy in them to give their best.
As glass awards will make them feel proud and will convince them to focus more on studies and get more such awards. The shine, aura and weight of these awards will inject an incredible amount of energy in them.
- Built a robust relationship with students
If we are going to truly inspire and motivate all of our students, we should know each of them on a personal level. We need to know their interests and hobbies, who they hang out with, their family situations, and what gets them excited.
Each student is going to require different motivational strategies, and we have to know them to be able to predict what strategies might work. One-size-fit-all won’t work. You need to decode the needs of each student by building a healthy relationship with them and need to work on them accordingly.
They all have been through a dull phase and are mentally exhausted. They need to be counseled and brought back on track.
- Help them in setting new goals and support them
It is extremely vital to encourage people to set new goals and start working on them instantly. It will be tough for them to catch the pace but if teachers will support them they will soon emerge as clear winners.
Teachers need to put student’s heart and soul back into their goals in life. Setting high expectations and supporting students as they struggle allows learners to rise to meet those expectations.
When expectations are transparent, students know where their learning is headed and are motivated to get there because it seems possible: the path is visible.
Working towards daily, weekly, and yearly goals gives students a purpose and a meaning for the hard work that they do.
Summary
Students are the purest souls who have lost their track as an aftermath of the pandemic. It is the foremost duty of all the teachers across the world to come up with ideas to accelerate the pace of the students so that they can fill the gap of two years that they have lost to the pandemic.
