Umrah Essentials: A Complete Checklist for First-Time Pilgrims
First-time visitors using Umrah packages from London and other locations may find the journey and planning of Umrah to be difficult. Since this is their first time travelling internationally and completing religious rites, they are under a lot of stress and are unsure of what is necessary to bring and what can be left behind.
But there’s no need to fret; we’ve got you covered with a thorough Umrah packing list.
Travel Documents.
Your passport and other necessary travel documents should never be left at home. Originals should not be carried around often because they could get lost or stolen. You should leave the originals of your travel documents in the hotel safe and bring along copies instead.
The following items are required for travel:
Passport.
Be sure to have at least six months left on your passport’s expiration date when you submit your visa application and that there are adequate blank visa pages in your passport.
Umrah Visa.
In order to participate in the Umrah ceremonies, visitors must be in possession of a current visa. Umrah visas are accessible from travel agencies authorised by the Saudi Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs (MoHU), while tourist visas can be obtained through e-visa services and, in some cases, upon arrival. These visas can still be used to undertake Umrah.
Identification.
Bring in your passport, driver’s licence, or other valid photo identification from your country of residence.
Itinerary.
Keep a record of your Umrah travel plans, including your hotel and flight confirmations and itineraries.
Money and Financial Essentials.
It is recommended that you save a little percentage of your total Umrah budget in case of unexpected costs.
Local Currency.
Because not all businesses accept foreign credit cards, it is advisable to bring some Saudi Riyals (SAR) with you to pay for transportation, food, shopping, etc.
International Debit/Credit Cards.
To avoid any payment issues when abroad, make sure your bank credit or debit cards are activated for international use.
Travel Insurance.
You should get travel insurance before you leave to cover any medical emergencies or other mishaps.
Medications and Personal Health.
Because not all medications are available there (or may work for you), pilgrims must bring their own.
Prescription Medications.
If you’re currently undergoing medical treatment, don’t forget to bring any necessary medications.
Basic First Aid Kit.
Bring along some standard first aid supplies like aspirin, antibacterial ointment, bandages, antibacterial wipes, etc.
Clothing.
When packing for a trip, it’s important to consider not only the destination but also the expected weather.
Personal Hygiene Items.
Keep your toothbrush, razor, shaving supplies, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shampoo, and other personal hygiene goods in a separate bag.
Ihram Garments.
Two unstitched white sheets are the sole acceptable garment for a man to wear during his Ihram. On the other hand, women can perform Ihram in their regular, modest attire.
Comfortable Clothing.
In addition to your Ihram, don’t forget to bring some casual clothes to wear throughout the kingdom.
Footwear.
Bring two pairs of shoes, one pair of trainers and one pair of chappals, to wear throughout the rites in Saudi Arabia. Make sure they are breathable, sturdy, and a good balance of comfort and lightness.
Accessories.
Travel Adapter.
Each pilgrim should bring a universal travel adapter to ensure that all of their electrical devices can be charged simultaneously without damaging the wall outlets.
Electronics.
On your pilgrimage, don’t forget to bring your charged mobile phone. Bring an iPad or tablet with you if you’re travelling with kids to keep them occupied and entertained.
This completes the list of items you must bring with you on your Umrah journey.
