Investment banks are classified into three different categories: bulge bracket, middle market, and boutique. The sales & trading (S&T) group of investment banks works with their institutional investor client, such as hedge funds, to buy and sell securities such as stocks, options, and bonds. They also provide other investment banking services, such as credit research, fixed income research, and macroeconomic analysis to help their clients make the best decisions.
