Treatment for Hair Loss Using FUE Hair Restoration/Transplant
There is no denying that hair loss is a hugely distressing thing to go through. Many men start to lose their hair at a young age, and it isn’t unusual for some men to begin losing hair in their late teens or early twenties. At whatever age the hair loss happens, most men are self-conscious about this condition.
A recent study on hair loss has shown that the average time between first noticing hair loss, and visiting a doctor to discuss treatment is six years. Hair loss is normally a gradual process and before this men:
- Go through the denial stage
- Hope their hair loss will stop
- or, weirdly that the hair loss will reverse itself and their hair will come back!
Before Treatment
It’s helpful to consider:
- Whether the hair loss has remained stationary for some time, as this means no further hair loss is taking place.
- If it’s the first stage of hair loss, when hair is still shedding then it’s likely you will need more treatments later on, as continued hair loss takes place.
- If it has remained the same for a while, and no further hair loss is taking place, then there is a greater chance that you may only need one treatment to keep the results in place.
Consultation
Once you have decided to undergo a hair transplant it is vital to have an in-depth consultation with your doctor before the procedure. It’s during the consultation that the doctor should discuss the various treatment options that are available, and it’s now that both you and the doctor be honest and upfront about any expectations or limitations about your hair transplant.
- It’s important to have a good understanding of all that’s involved in the procedure itself.
- Make sure that you and your surgeon are on the same page and that you work together to make plans for further surgery for any future hair loss.
- You should only go ahead with surgery once you have a realistic expectation of your hair transplant results.
- Always discuss your wants and needs openly to make sure that the doctor has a clear understanding of what your expectations of your hair transplant results are.
A good doctor should always be very honest when discussing your FUE hair transplant procedure, whether discussing a hairline that is age appropriate or that transplanted hair can take between 10 and 12 months to reach full growth, or more than one transplant session might be required, or even that not all patients are candidates for hair transplantation.
If you decide to go ahead with the procedure, you may wonder what you should expect. In most cases, the transplant isn’t going to hurt and once you receive the aesthetics, you’ll feel only minimal discomfort throughout the entire time of the procedure.
The Procedure
Prior to the FUE procedure, a computer digital scanning identifies the strongest donor follicles. This is to protect future hair loss. A local anaesthetic gets applied on the perimeter of the scalp and once the scalp is entirely numb, the rest of the procedure is completely painless.
Should the procedure be an extensive one, lasting more than 5-6 hours, then you will receive extra anaesthetic before the first one wears off. The transplant involves removing some healthy hair follicles on your head and transplanting them individually to the problem area’s.
If possible, the transplanted hair goes into the same slot that the former hair follicles were in, to keep the look as natural as possible. This also helps to increase the chances that the hair stays permanently transplanted, so that you never have to worry about going bald again – or at least drastically reduce the amount of hair loss you are now faced with.
- Individual hair follicles are separately removed using the micro extractor by the experienced hair transplant surgeon.
- Specific hair follicles are meticulously placed into area’s of hair loss using the patented implant pen.
- This precision instrument implants the hair to imitate the angle and direction of growth of each person’s original hair which is unique to them.
There is no risk of nerve damage and new hair grows naturally the new site. The chances of visible scarring are negligible, so once it’s completed nobody will notice a hair transplant has taken place.
Having a FUE hair transplant is a less painful procedure compared to earlier transplant methods and it also produces more natural looking results. For this reason it’s a far more attractive option for most people considering the process.
