On a night to remember, the rugby family and the greats of rugby celebrated the year’s outstanding achievers at a ceremony in the storied Salle des Étoiles under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco.

Van der Flier was named the World Rugby Men’s 15s Player of the Year in 2022, following Johnny Sexton and Keith Wood (2001).He was the third Irish player to accomplish this.He won the award ahead of South African Lukhanyo Am, French Antoine Dupont, and Irish Johnny Sexton, who were all nominees.

I’ve always felt that I needed to play at my best all the time, or I wouldn’t be playing, so that’s undoubtedly driven me on. I’m fortunate to have some very experienced, top-quality players, especially in my position both in Ireland and in Leinster. “

Members of the rugby family were able to cast votes for the International Rugby Players Men’s and Women’s Try of the Year on World Rugby social media platforms after the star-studded World Rugby Awards panels selected nine winners.
