The ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Just Got Postponed
ICC recently confirmed the postponement of ICC T20 World Cup 2020. The cricket world cup schedule has been postponed due to corona crisis after months of consideration.
Rescheduling of cricket world cup schedule
Because of the delay in ICC T20 world cup, the upcoming three cricket series’ have also been rescheduled. The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has been moved to October-November 2023. This will allow more extended qualification period for the participating teams.
IBC Board, the commercial subsidiary of the ICC set windows for next three ICC men’s cricket matches. This decision not only brings clarity to the upcoming cricket series calendar but also gives our sport the best opportunity to recover from the corona crisis over the next three years.
The windows decided for upcoming men’s cricket matches are as follows:
ICC T20 World Cup 2021 — October-November 2021 | Final on November 14, 2021
ICC T20 World Cup 2022 — October-November 2022 | Final on November 13, 2022
ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 — October-November 2023 | Final on November 26, 2023
World cup 2023 is going to be held in India.
IBC Board to continue monitoring corona situation
The IBC Board will continue to monitor the changing corona situation closely. The board will assess all the information in detail to make a considered decision. This will ensure that the future hosts can stage safe global events in 2021 and 2022.
Again, the board is evaluating the corona situation to safely stage ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021 in New Zealand coming February. Planning for this event is as per schedule as of now.
ICC takes a contemplated decision
ICC spokesperson has said that ICC has undertaken a sophisticated, comprehensive contingency planning exercise. And that the number one priority is good health and safety of everyone involved in cricket.
He has said that the decision to postpone ICC men’s T20 world cup is taken after considering all the available options. He added that the rescheduling was the best possible alternative to conduct two safe T20 world cups for cricket fans across the globe.
ICC now has the clarity around windows to reschedule cricket’s upcoming series. Moving the men’s cricket world cup to next year gives ICC a better chance to maintain the integrity of the qualification process. The additional time will be used to reschedule men’s cricket matches that could have been lost because of the pandemic problem. It also helps with deciding qualification process.
