It’s hard to not think about Yorgos Lanthimos’ Oscar-nominated The Favourite while watching The Great, Hulu’s new period dramedy about the famous Russian Empress Catherine the Great. Both are penned by the same writer Tony McNamara. Both also tell the anachronistic version of real histories to brilliant results.
