To treat pain better ways you know like a for instance like coming up with an opioid that’s not addictive but of course that’s really hard to do and kicking around in this field all that time has been cannabinoids for pain so obviously there’s a ton of individual people that that try cannabinoids for pain uh but the scientific literature is a little bit more mixed and i’ve always had this buy terpenes kind of this interesting cannabinoids we always had those tools but none of the projects ever kind of gone off the ground until somewhat recently my uh my now graduated graduate student dr justin levine uh he’d always also been interested in cannabinoids and kind of came across.

This idea of terpenes he read some of ethan rousseau’s papers he’s kind of a big figure in this field and he said hey why don’t we try this out so that’s that’s what we decided to do and that was kind of the one that caught fire the project that really worked out so we did a big project describing the what these terpenes are doing we can talk about that in more detail got it published and uh but but that initial description was really more just sort of a neutral description like what are these what are they doing uh what what we’re now really looking into is could these be an actual effective treatment for pain and either on their own or in combination with drugs like cannabinoids and opioids and we we haven’t published yet but we have some funding from the nih and which we just recently got and we have a lot of unpublished work that really says that we’re on the right track here that when you give these terpenes in sort of translationally patient relevant pain models so like a peripheral neuropathic pain pain caused by cancer treatment uh pain due to inflammation etc these things are really seem to be affected with feudal side effects.

What year did that study kind of kick off i know it just came out a couple months ago right yes we actually only started it in 2020. it went really fast and then we published it a few months ago in 2021 and i think that this next study is going fast too i think we’ll probably submit it here in four or five months for for publication interesting so the paper um i think that we’ll dive into mostly is cannabis sativa terpenes are you might have to help me with this i haven’t heard this before i i was looking at it can a mimetic cannabinic cannabis medic yeah so basically what that means is they they mimic cannabinoids they look like that’s the mimic the effects true Terpenes they produce i think i kind of made that word up which is probably why you haven’t seen it before and then the rest of the paper says a cannabinetic and they selectively enhance cannabinoid activity um and i hadn’t seen that before i looked it up maybe you coined it because there are other papers and some blogs i saw using that word about what types of herbs or even terpenes are cannabinetic and so looking
