A collection of six islands, Islamorada is a revered destination for sport fishermen. The calm, clear, nature-filled waters of Anne’s Beach are perfect for snorkeling, while Long Key State Park has kayaks and canoes available for rent. Library Beach, located on a mangrove trail, has playgrounds and less crowds, making it a popular destination for families. Other Islamorada attractions include dolphin shows at the Theater of the Sea and exhibits at the Museum of Diving History. The Rain Barrel Artisan Village also has several popular galleries that are worth checking out.
The New Beach of Smyrna
South of Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach is known for hip surf. The town has 12 miles of white sand beaches and great waves. Renting a surfboard is not difficult, although fans may want to bring their own. You may also want to plan your trip to coincide with one of the food festivals held throughout the year, including the New Smyrna Beach Food Festival (in April), Cinco de Mayo celebration (in May), Shrimp & Seafood Festival (in April). August), or Jazz Fest (in September). Year-round attractions include artists’ studios at The Hub on Canal, exhibitions at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, and local wildlife, including manatees and dolphins.
