Song Ji-ah, the daughter of former national soccer player Song Jong-gook, has been unable to compete in the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Chairman’s Cup. Song Jong-gook’s ex-wife and Song Ji-ah’s mother, actress Park Yeon-soo, complained about the unfairness, saying, “It happened because I wrote the wrong number of strokes on the application form.”
Park Yeon-soo posted this story on her Instagram on the 16th, saying, “Jia, who started (golf) late, wishes to turn pro as soon as possible.” She
continued, “Why wouldn’t (my daughter) want to play for the national team like her dad? Her goal was to pass on the national team or reserve team and turn pro quickly to save her mom a lot of work,” and “She only wanted to place in the top 5 in a tournament where semi-pro (pro) status is given in advance to players who have not yet reached their birthdays and cannot turn pro.”
Park Yeon-su explained, “I’ve been working twice as hard these days for the KLPGA Chairman’s Cup, but the KLPGA called me the night before the competition, a week before, to tell me I couldn’t participate.” “I applied for the KLPGA Chairman’s Cup a month ago, but I had to write down my score from another competition, so I wrote 74, but when I looked it up, it was 71, so they told me I couldn’t participate.”
She said, “I got my score mixed up with the Gochang competition and submitted more. Of course, it’s 100% my fault,” but added, “This isn’t the 10th competition, and they didn’t even give me a chance to edit it, and they cut me right away. It’s so unfair. I submitted my application to the company but didn’t even get an interview.”
Park Yeon-su said, “Other associations contact me so that I can make corrections. The score verification process is problematic because players write lower scores than their own, but how can this happen if I write higher scores and can’t compete?” “Shouldn’t they let me know in advance whether I am qualified or not so that I can make corrections? (The organizers) asked me why I didn’t make corrections when I had time to do so, but I didn’t know what I wrote wrong, so how can I make corrections?” She added,
“What should I do about Jia’s feelings, who couldn’t compete in the competition she desperately wanted to compete in? I’m really sorry for being such a stupid mother,” and added, “Please stop talking about practices and I hope that the KLPGA will develop. This is a competition that someone really desperately wants to compete in.” Park Yeon-su married Song Jong-guk, one of the main players who led the team to the semifinals in the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, in 2006, and they have a daughter, Jia, and a son, Ji-wook. They divorced in 2015, and Park Yeon-su has custody of the children. In Jia Yang’s case, she is preparing to become a professional golfer, and Jiwook is preparing to become a soccer player. 안전놀이터
