Steamy Bus, Can’t Open Windows Due to Terrorist Threats Hwang Seon-woo “This is a big deal”
North Korean athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics, including Ahn Chang-ok, entered France through Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris on the afternoon of the 21st (Korean time) and boarded a bus to wave to the France-North Korea friendship welcoming group.
The ‘steamy buses’ without air conditioning are not even keeping the promised departure times. This is the level of transportation used by the national athletes. Something frustrating is happening at the Olympics, the world’s largest sports festival, and it is a major variable that will affect the athletes’ condition management.
The national team, which includes Hwang Sun-woo and Kim Woo-min, was scheduled to train at the La Defense Arena in Paris, France, starting at 5 PM (Korean time) on the 25th. However, only Lee Joo-ho, Jo Sung-jae, Heo Yeon-gyeong, Kim Ji-hoon, and Ji Yu-chan warmed up on time.
The other athletes, including Hwang Sun-woo and Kim Woo-min, arrived at the stadium about an hour late, losing valuable training time.
Some athletes’ ‘training tardiness’ was due to the fact that the shuttle buses provided by the organizing committee did not depart from the athletes’ village on time.
The distance from the Olympic athletes’ village in Saint-Denis, northern Paris, to the Paris La Defense Arena, where the Paris Olympics will be held, is about 11km, and if there are no special problems, it should take about 20 minutes by car to get there.
However, it took more than twice as long. Normally, the shuttle buses should run on a ‘dedicated road’ that is not affected by traffic congestion, but since they do not run according to the schedule, the athletes are wasting time unnecessarily. They
cannot rest comfortably while traveling. Some buses do not have air conditioning, so the temperature inside is like a sauna. Opening the windows would be a solution, but tape is put up to prevent the threat of terrorism. This is why athletes from each country are complaining that “it is much cooler outside the bus.”
There was even a story among the players that a foreign player fainted after getting off the bus due to the extreme conditions. Hwang Seon-woo pointed out, “It’s a harsh environment that could have caused something like that.” This is a
serious concern for the players who need to prepare comfortably and maintain the best condition on the day of the game. They are worried that they will have difficulty managing their condition because the transportation environment has not improved even after the opening. Hwang Seon-woo said,
“I have been training by going back and forth between the stadium and the athletes’ village since the 23rd, but this problem occurs every time. I have to invest three hours round trip. (Managing my condition) is really difficult,” expressing his grievances. “If it continues until the day of the game, it will be a big problem, so we need to find a solution.”
Kim Woo-min also said, “The bus is too hot,” and “A few days ago, the bus went into the wrong place and went around and around. There was also an accident where the car was damaged because it went into a narrow alley by mistake.” 파워볼사이트
