Southern Rock Guitar
Kings Of The Swamp — Welcome to Kings of the Swamp! This blog includes everything from music to movies to merchandise that has a soulful/swampy feel. Check out TONY JOE WHITE! He without a doubt is one of my favorite guitar players/heros specifically in the SWAMP ROCK genre.
If you’ve been living under a rock, check out the band above in this picture called “Mountain”. They are best known for the rock hit “Mississippi Queen”. I know you’ve heard it… If not then give it a listen… As well as the heavily sampled tune called “Long Red”. And by the way the guitarist putting down those awesome riffs and licks is “Leslie West”. He unfortunately past away in December 2020. If you’re a guitar player listen to his playing style if you’re unfamiliar…
The original line-up included Leslie West on guitar/vocals, Felix Pappalardi on bass, vocals, keyboards, Steve Knight on keyboards and Corey Laing on drums/percussion.
There sound was more of a hard rock/blues rock sound with a touch of heavy metal…
Early members had ties with the group “Cream” as West had mentioned in the past Eric Clapton had an influence on his playing style.

Tony Joe White (Swamp Rock Guitarist)
Check out TONY JOE WHITE! He without a doubt is one of my favorite guitar players/heros specifically in the SWAMP ROCK genre. He was known as the “SWAMP FOX to some…
He wrote and performed many great song classics such as “Polk Salad Annie” and “Rainy Night in Georgia”
If you are a guitar player yourself or just a music lover/listener in general I do highly recommend “Polk Salad Annie” The guitar licks he plays around his vocals are like none other…Such a good groove…
A little history….
His first album was Black and White I believe first recorded in 1969. This album was recorded alongside famous Muscle Shoals/Nashville musicians such as Norbert Putnam, Jerry Carrigan, David Briggs and more….
In the 1970s, he toured with acts such as the Creedence Clearwater Revival and completed a European tour.
I read that during the late 1990s he also toured with Waylon Jennings and played at the Montreux festival.
In the late 2000s he performed on the David Letterman show and performed his classic tune “Polk Salad Annie”
Sadly he passed away in 2018 and will be dearly remembered by his beloved family, friends and fans…
