Socket Head Socket Screws
Socket Head Socket Screws, also known as Hex Bolts or Allen flat socket screws are a threaded fastener that has a cylindrical head with an internal hex drive hole. These types of bolts are used in assemblies where there is not enough clearance to install a standard nut and bolt, or where the screw head would protrude from the surface of the component being attached. Their flat head allows them to sit flush with the mating surface, offering a cleaner appearance than most other screw types.
These fasteners are commonly found in industrial production and assembly lines, especially for machinery or equipment that needs to be able to move or pivot. They are extremely strong (see the attached tensile strength and torque specifications chart), easy to install using an Allen wrench, and have a sleek, discreet finish that is unlikely to catch or snag moving parts or other fixtures.
While steel and Stainless Steel socket cap screws are the most common varieties, there are also several alternative materials available for various applications. For example, alloy steel with a plain, zinc or black oxide finish can be an excellent choice for applications where corrosion resistance is a concern. Brass socket screws are also available for applications that require a lightweight fastener. They are less prone to corrosion and can help reduce overall project costs by lowering weight, especially for applications where moving components will pass over the fastened area.
Aluminium socket caps are another option that is often used for projects where weight is a critical factor. They are about one third lighter than steel, yet offer good tensile and yield strengths. This type of screw is also a great choice for applications where weight and space are limited, including furniture or cabinetry, or for aerospace structures and engines.Flat Head Socket Screws
