Lin Xiaojun, who was put on trial for that incident, was found not guilty in court, but was suspended for one year by the Korea Skating Federation. In 2020, Lin Xiaojun chose to naturalize as a Chinese citizen.

Lin Xiaojun was unable to participate in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics due to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regulation that states, ‘To change one’s nationality and participate in the Olympics, three years must have passed since the international competition in which one competed with the previous nationality.’
Lin Xiaojun began participating in international competitions as a member of the Chinese national team in the 2022-2023 season, but the match did not take place as Hwang Dae-heon decided to take a break for the season.
