Seungbin Choi “Impressed and proud” to receive invitation to KPGA Championships
At last year’s 66th KPGA Championship with A-ONE CC, the most prestigious tournament in Korea, Choi Seung-bin (23.CJ) enjoyed the thrill of his first victory.
Choi took home 300 million won in prize money, five years of tour seeding, and a permanent spot in the KPGA Championship. Choi also became the 24th player to win the first title in the 66-year history of the KPGA Championship and the 45th player in history to win the KPGA Championship.
“It felt like a dream to win the oldest competition in Korea,” Choi said, “and I still get shivers all over my body when I think about that moment.”
Choi Seung-bin was a member of the Korean National Standby Army from 2019 to 2020. After becoming a KPGA Professional in 2020 and a KPGA Tour Professional in 2021, Choi earned one victory on the 2nd Tour in 2021. He joined the KPGA Tour in 2022 as the 2nd Tour’s top point earner.
After competing in 16 tournaments in his rookie year in 2022, Choi made the cut in 11 events, including a tie for eighth at the Honors K-Solago CC Hanjangsang Invitational, to maintain his seeding at No. 70 on the Genesis Point.
Choi ‘blossomed’ in 2023, his second year on the tour. He finished the season ranked 14th in Genesis Points (3,324.52P) after making the cut in 15 of 19 events, including a win at the 66th KPGA Championship with A-ONE CC, a third-place finish at the 65th Korea Open at Kolon, and a tie for fifth at the Golf Zone Open in Jeju.
“It was a great year for me to get my first win,” said Choi, “but it was also clear that I had some things to work on. I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to consistently finish in the top 10 for a full season.”
Choi Seung-bin is currently in the United States warming up for the 2024 season. He is scheduled to train until early March.
“I’m focusing on my approach shots around the putts and greens. In particular, I need to improve my ability to hit shots within 10 to 30 meters,” he explains. “I’m also working on my driver and stamina.”
Choi’s goal this season is to win multiple titles, including back-to-back KPGA Championships. “My first goal is to defend my title at the ’67th KPGA Championship with A-ONE CC’ as the ‘defending champion,'” Choi said, adding, “I also want to record multiple wins in a season.”
Finally, Choi Seung-bin said, “I recently received an invitation to the ‘KPGA Championships’. I was very impressed,” he said, adding, “I felt very proud to be a 메이저사이트 member of the KPGA and a player on the KPGA Tour.”
Since this year, the KPGA has been sending invitations to the KPGA Championship as a way of honoring players who have qualified for the KPGA Championship, the first professional golf tournament in Korea. The first invitation was sent to Kim Jong-duk (63), the winner of the 1998 ’41st KPGA Championship,’ who visited the KPGA on the 25th of last month.
Meanwhile, the ’67th KPGA Championship with A-ONE CC’ will open on June 6 at A-ONE CC in Yangsan, Gyeongnam. It will be the ninth year since 2016 that the KPGA Championship has been held at A-ONE CC.
The tournament has been held every year since its debut in 1958. It is the oldest tournament on the KPGA Tour and will be held this season with a total prize fund of 1.6 billion won. This will be the largest prize pool of the 2024 season and the largest prize pool of the KPGA Tour in history.
If Choi Seung-bin wins this year’s 67th KPGA Championship with A-ONE CC, he will become the first player to win back-to-back KPGA Championships in 36 years since Choi Yun-soo (76) won back-to-back titles in 1987 and 1988.
