Professional soccer K League 1 veteran Lee Geun-ho (Daegu FC) has announced his retirement from professional soccer and praised senior coaches for their leadership roles.
Lee, who will retire after this season, attended the Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 Final Round media day event at a hotel in Yongsan-gu on Oct. 18.
Lee has accumulated 80 goals and 53 assists in 385 career K League games (as of Oct. 16), one K League 1 title, two AFC Champions League titles, and the 2012 AFC Champions League MVP and Player of the Year awards. He has scored 19 goals in 84 caps for his country.
Speaking about Lee, Incheon United head coach Cho Sung-hwan joked, “We recruit players over 35 years old, and it’s a shame that he retired without consulting us.” He added, “We lived together in Jeju as players and coaches. He is a good leader and has good leadership qualities,” he said, adding, “If we can get the P-class license quickly, he can become a leader who can threaten the position of managers in the K League at any time.”
Jeonbuk Hyundai Head Coach Valeriu Bordeanu advised him to continue working in soccer, saying, “Don’t stop playing soccer.”
Kim Ki-dong, head coach of the Pohang Steelers, said, “If I had decided to retire, I would have been preparing to be a leader. “You’ve met a lot of coaches during your career and you’ve organized them,” he said. “You have your own philosophy while studying to be a coach. I hope I can listen to their advice while looking and thinking in various ways instead of sticking to one thing.”
“I still don’t know if I want to be a coach or an entertainer,” joked Ulsan Hyundai coach Hong Myung-bo. “There will be a coach’s way of teaching that stays in your head. There will also be inspiration that you felt while playing,” he said, adding, “If you study well as a coach and find your own color yourself, you will be a good coach in the future.”
Gwangju FC coach Lee Jung-hyo made the audience laugh when he said, “Don’t be like me in the interview.” He said, “It’s good to establish your own color in terms of football style. I think you need to have a clear character.” “I think you need to have your own color and character to be successful,” he said.
Daegu coach Choi Won-kwon, who played with Lee in his team, said, “Parenting is important. It’s great that he decided to retire from soccer because of that.” “I’m willing to work with him anytime because he’s a soccer player. I want to work with him whenever he comes back.”
Lee announced his retirement on Dec. 16. Daegu will hold a retirement ceremony at the 38th round home game of the K League 1 on December 3 against Incheon United at DGB Daegu Bank Park.
Prior to the event, Lee revealed that he will focus on raising his son, who was born in February, after retirement. “Parenting comes first,” he said, “I’m grateful that my child was born and I’m going to take care of him. Parenting is my constitution. It’s still fun, so I’m going to do it well.” 카지노사이트존
