‘Search for new coach begins’ Power Enhancement Committee begins first meeting
The Korea Football Association Power Strengthening Committee will be held on the 21st.
The newly formed Korea Football Association (KFA) Strengthening Committee has begun the process of appointing a new coach for the national soccer team.
The KFA Power Strengthening Committee held its first power strengthening committee meeting privately at the Soccer Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul from 11 am on the 21st.
Attending this event were new reinforcement committee chairperson Jeong Hae-seong, who was appointed the day before, as well as newly appointed reinforcement committee members, Gimpo FC coach Go Jeong-woon, Gangwon FC coach Yoon Jeong-hwan, soccer commentator Park Joo-ho, Sejong Sports Toto coach Yoon Deok-yeo, and Jeon Kyeong-jun, technical committee chairman of the Korea Professional Football League. A total of 9 people participated. Soongsil University coach Park Seong-bae and Moonkyung managing director Mi-yeon Lee were unable to attend due to their team schedules.
Although the meeting was organized immediately after the members were formed the day before, important issues must be addressed immediately. There is an urgent need to discuss the selection of a successor to coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who was dismissed on the 16th.
The national soccer team, which lost its leader due to the dismissal of coach Klinsmann, must immediately play the second round of the Asian region qualifiers for the 2026 North and Central America World Cup against Thailand in a home-and-away format on March 21 and 26.
As time is running out to appoint a new commander, the Force Enhancement Committee is expected to discuss various issues.
Currently, the most likely plan is to hand over the baton to a domestic temporary manager for the two-game series against Thailand in March and then find a formal manager with time to spare. Since there is time until June after the Thailand game, operating a temporary supervision system seems reasonable.
In the past, Korea has assigned the role of firefighter to an interim coach. After firing coach Cho Gwang-rae in December 2011, coach Choi Kang-hee, who was leading Jeonbuk Hyundai at the time, was entrusted with the last game of the World Cup final qualifiers. In 2014, after coach Hong Myung-bo resigned after the Brazil World Cup, two warm-up games were played under Shin Tae-yong as acting coach.
Currently, in the soccer world, Ulsan HD coach Hong Myung-bo, former Gangwon FC coach Choi Yong-soo, and Olympic team coach Hwang Seon-hong are being discussed as interim coach candidates.
Jeong Hae-seong, chairman of the Power Strengthening Committee, plans to hold a separate briefing around 3 p.m. after the meeting. 스포츠토토맨
