Legendary guitarist Ryland “Ry” Cooder has lived in the seaside town of Santa Monica for decades, but 2020 is apparently leading the septuagenarian rocker on a journey to brave new residential territories. He’s strummed out $2.5 million for an idiosyncratic compound in Altadena, way out in the relatively untamed wilderness that is the San Gabriel Valley.
