RuneScape has more than 300 million accounts created in over 20 years
Runelite HD is a mod (made by a single player (117) that makes use of Old School RuneScape and gives it an HD makeover OSRS Gold. Since in Jagex were threatening legal action against mods that were similar to this, accusing them of copyright infringement. However, these appeared to be blown away as Jagex gave their blessing to Runelite’s original Runelite.
Yet earlier this week, just hours before the updated Runelite HD was due for an official release 117 was approached by Jagex to demand that work stop and that the release should be pulled. This time, however, it’s not due to copyright claims, but due to the fact that Jagex claims they’re creating an own HD upgrade.
Although it may sound reasonable at first, there’s actually a huge problem. Runelite HD doesn’t actually seem to be breaking any of Jagex’s modifications guidelines. In fact, the company claims that new guidelines informing us of the fact Runelite HD does actually break the rules will be released this week.
Mod creator 117 states that they tried to work with Jagex by offering the mod’s removal once they had completed the project the release of their effort however, “they declined outright,” apparently indicating the end of an endeavor that consumed “approximately about 2000 hours over two years.”
The games will draw on adventures, characters and locations from RuneScape’s extensive 21-year history in the form of a board game that will take between one and five players in quest-based adventures through Gielinor.
They’ll create and upgrade equipment, upgrade their characters cooking special recipes, engage in conversation with NPCs and test their skills while exploring different regions of the globe RS Gold Buy, and with many exciting side quests to keep them busy and amuse them on the way.
