Over the years I’ve made a few modifications to my trusty Gladiator. One of them was upgrading all four wheels and tires, because you never know when there will be an obstacle or two in your way! The off-road performance that these Nitto Trail Grappler M/Ts provide is unbeatable – it’ll take everything from rock gardens to bog stands without so much as giving away any signs of life other than its own proud steel grip on what matters most: dirt roads.
The moment I got my hands on a set of Nittos, it was game over for other tires.
As much power and traction as they offer in normal driving circumstances? Yeah – game-on! And since this is an article about how well these things work off road… Well let’s just say you won’t be hearing any complaints from me anytime soon either (or ever). The first 8 months were spent running exclusively through rough terrains with plenty more action coming up next so stay tuned if Overlanding sounds like your thing.
Road Performance
My daily driver is an old lady now, so she sees a lot of city streets and freeways.
I was concerned about how the ride would be with these massive tires on when I got them at first but after putting some miles behind me they turned out great!
My jeep hasn’t seen this smooth road since I got it! The tires are crazy awesome and they ride like luxury cars on tarmac.
I’m not saying that my car rides like a Cadillac, but you’d expect the aggressive tread pattern of these, Nitto’s mad scientists figured out how to automate production so there is an extraordinary uniformity in their product line which gives me great confidence knowing what type grip each individual piece has under different conditions.
What About Off-Road Performance?
The tread pattern on these tires is fantastic for getting a grip in any condition – mud, snow or sand! They have reinforced shoulder grooves which help prevent punctures and central siping to channel water away from your vehicle’s interior as you drive across rough terrain. The leading edge of each tire features side lug blocks that bite into anything the environment can throw at them so it won’t slow down progress even one little bit.
Jeep owners know that having a tire which cleans itself out quickly is key to preventing tons of wheelspin. The Speed Grym alarmingly effective tread pattern gets rid of the gunk in an efficient manner, even on low PSI! When I need more grip (like sand), just air down and take advantage with killer tires.
When I go off-road, it is imperative that my tires be able to handle anything. And this means having what are known as “all terrain” or Mud Terrain rating wheels on all four corners of both vehicles – including the rear setup where many people store their recovery gear in case something goes wrong while out exploring remote locations far away from help if needed quickly!
The tires provide just enough traction even when mixed with deep sand and loose dirt which makes them perfect for adventure travel.
What’s NOT to Like About these Tires?
I don’t have much to say when it comes to not liking these tires. The Nitto Trail Grapplers have been a godsend for my poor little Jeep. They’re chunky, heavy tires that really help boost fuel efficiency and they haven’t let me down yet even when the going got rough during an unexpected rainstorm! Plus these things won’t hurt your wallet like other brands might either – I can run this same set on both vehicles without any issues whatsoever (and who doesn’t love saving money?).
On your next tire upgrade, don’t just go with the obvious choice of rubber. The Nitto Trail Grappler M/Ts have been one my best investments yet in outfitting our off-road rig and they’re not even done proving themselves! These radials will keep you moving strong on whatever kind of terrain life throws at it while still being able to tackle anything from sand dunes all over Egypt down some mountain trails near Vancouver – trust me when I say this is no easy feat!
