Peer Tutoring Program – The Benefits Of Sending A Student To A Low Test Score Class
What is peer tutoring? If you have ever been in a situation where you were having to take an exam or perform a task that could be learned much faster by someone with experience, then you probably have heard of peer tutoring. This type of tutoring involves a teaching approach that is similar to that of the teachers at a private or public school. However, instead of the student going to a classroom learning the material, they are introduced to it via their peers.
A peer tutor is basically anyone who’s of the similar stature as the individual being tutored. In an undergraduate program, this would typically be other students, as different from the graduate students that might be in the reading or writing department; in most K-12 schools this is usually either a student in the same grade or better than average. However, in some cases, such as when paired students have very similar ability levels, it can be beneficial for one student to be paired with another who has slightly better ability. That is why sometimes people go for a more experienced teacher, even though they know that the pair aren’t so alike.
For example, in a case where one child has demonstrated symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), the ADHD-like behaviors may need to be dealt with through peer tutoring. It’s possible that the child may not have the necessary behavior interventions to help them control their behavior, but they have shown a profound lack of interest in paying attention. The child will learn through their peers what behaviors get a response and which don’t. If the child is paired with an instructor who has experience with these types of issues, then they may very well be able to benefit from that instruction, without having to continue to be treated as though they have a mental illness.
A second example comes from a school district where the teacher is very new. One of the new classrooms that she has been teaching in has some very low test scores. She has also replaced many of the older students with new students who are doing really well. One of those students is a young woman who has done exceptionally well in Math and Science classes. Through some careful shopping around, the teacher was able to find some great “Peer Tutor” matched up with her, which enabled her to get help from a great tutor and to catch up with some of the other students in the class who were doing well as well.
Some of the best “Peer Tutors” that can be used for this kind of situation involve specialized tutoring, paired tutors, or even private tuition. These tutors are able to provide the attention that is needed for highly motivated students who have difficulty concentrating at their own pace. Many of these lower-performing students need a little bit of extra guidance to make sure that they are moving toward the next grade level. If the school district can partner up with some of these exceptional tutors, then they will find that getting those students to move forward and to achieve their goals is made a lot easier.
There are a lot of great advantages when it comes to a peer tutoring program. Students who are highly motivated can achieve great things. In some cases, they may end up having to take some remedial action, but in many cases they will be able to overcome any problems that they may have with a little bit of extra guidance. The bottom line is that a peer tutoring program can really help a student achieve their educational goals.
