Paragon physiotherapy and Sports Clinic in St. John’s offers a science based, progressive approach to injury rehabilitation. Our multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists and registered massage therapists is skilled in injury rehabilitation, including: orthopedic injuries, sports injuries, motor vehicle accidents, and work place injuries (WorkPlaceNL claims).
Physiotherapy:
Our physiotherapists are trained in the latest treatment techniques of an array of injuries and pre/post surgical rehabilitation. They are experienced in treating patients of all ages and abilities — from seniors to professional athletes.
Sports Injury:
Our physios are European trained and have experience treating professional and international level athletes. They were mentored by Olympic and World Championship level clinicians and apply the same clinical approach used at the highest level.
Massage Therapy:
Our Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are certified in advance treatment techniques to enhance your recovery. Swedish massage, sports massage, active release, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and pre/post natal are just a few.
Dry Needling and Electro Dry Needling:
Dry needling is a method that has been shown to be effective in relieving trigger points. Numerous physicians advise dry needling as the first step in therapy when pain is present, however patients have to be screened prior to starting therapy. It is to be noted that dry needling does cause some soreness that may last one or two days.
Electro-Physical Therapy and Modalities:
There are a number of methods of pain reduction available to those suffering from a physical injury. For a short term solution for pain or swelling reduction that can assist in the introduction of other long term solutions (exercise prescription, manual therapy), physiotherapists use electrotherapy and other modalities.
Acupuncture and Electro Acupuncture:
Western Medical Acupuncture combines methods from traditional Chinese acupuncture with the contemporary research of anatomy, neurology, physiology, pathology and evidence-based medicine. We primarily use it in addition to other treatments to help alleviate pain, improve blood flow, and reduce tension.
Athletic Taping:
The use of athletic tape alone can help reduce the risk and the severity of injuries, particularly in contact sports such as rugby and hockey and sports that require an athlete to make sudden, rapid movements and pivots such as ultimate frisbee, soccer, and basketball. It is also effective at profoundly reducing the number of injuries suffered in virtually any other sport. During sport participation, taping can allow the athlete to continue to play with minor injuries. Taping is particularly useful as a means of reducing the symptoms of injuries that cause chronic pain such as shin splints, patellofemoral pain syndrome, turf toe and hyper-mobile thumb. For the athletic tape to be most effective, it is advisable to have a physiotherapist or experienced sports trainer apply the tape along with manual therapy to speed the healing process.
Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA):
Car accidents can be traumatic events, both physically and emotionally. Our aim is to get you back to the life you had before the accident — including your work, hobbies, and recreational activities.
Your motor vehicle accident treatment initially involves helping with pain management, using manual techniques and therapeutic modalities, while also focusing on restoring pain-free motion. As you continue to recover from your injuries, the focus starts to shift towards regaining strength and function.
Paragon Physiotherapy has experienced clinicians that are certified treatment providers covered by your insurance. We will help you fill out all the necessary paperwork needed when making your claim.
Post Surgery:
Our clinicians use evidence-based protocols for enhanced surgery recovery. They are fully licensed and qualified to rehabilitate patients post knee replacement, hip replacement, arthroscopic surgery, microdiscectomy, laminectomy, ACL repair, Achilles repair, tendon repair, and more.
