Hair Alcohol Test: Fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEEs) & ethyl glucuronide (EtG) are metabolites of alcohol. Besides being detectable in blood and urine, these two metabolites can be found in the hair. Samples Collection for Hair and Nail Alcohol Test
For a hair alcohol detection test, around 200 hair strands are required. A 3-5 centimeter section is taken from the head for the EtG test. Depending on the hair length, this test can trace the pattern, frequency, and extent of alcohol consumption in an individual for the past three to six months.
In nail alcohol testing, nail clippings are needed. The clipping of the nails should be as close to the nail bed as possible. If the length of the nail is 5 mm, one nail clipping can be enough for this testing. It is better to take nail clippings of 10 mg (approx.) for a conclusive result for shorter nail clippings. You can use toenails or fingernails, but never a mixture of both of them.
