Next year, if baseball cancels Friday-Saturday games, doubleheaders will be played the next day
Starting next season, doubleheaders will be held the next day if Friday and Saturday games in the KBO are canceled due to rain.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced the principles of the 2024 KBO League schedule on Monday, including these details.
At its recent board meeting, the KBO decided that starting next season, if a Friday or Saturday game is canceled, a doubleheader will be played the next day.
This will be implemented starting in April, excluding the summer months of July and August. When doubleheaders are played, teams will be allowed to use two extra players per team.
Opening Day will also be moved up a week from the previous schedule. Next year’s regular season will begin on March 23.
In addition, the All-Star break will be shortened from seven days to four. Since 2019, the All-Star break has been seven days long.
The 2024 KBO All-Star Game will be held on July 6, with the venue to be determined. The All-Star break will be from July 5 to 8.
The change comes after a series of rainouts this season made it difficult for teams to make last-minute scheduling decisions.
This regular season, 72 games were rained out, 30 more than last year (42).
This increased the total number of remaining games and delayed the postseason schedule. The rescheduling of the remaining games led to controversy and even a skit in which a doubleheader was played at the Gocheok SkyDome, the only dome stadium in Korea.
The KBO explained, “We decided that it was important to continue the regular season in order to minimize the inconvenience to baseball fans and prevent injuries to the team.”
The organization also took into account that baseball’s national championship, the Premier 12, will be held next November. The Premier 12 will take place from November 10 to 24. 슬롯사이트
