Montclair is a municipality in Essex County, New Jersey, United States.

As of the 2010 United States Census, the municipality’s populace was 37,669, mirroring a decrease of 1,308 (−3.4%) from the 38,977 included in the 2000 Census, which had thus expanded by 1,248 (+3.3%) from the 37,729 included in the 1990 Census. Montclair was first framed as a municipality on April 15, 1868, from segments of Bloomfield Township

A few streams stream toward the east through Montclair: Toney’s Brook in the middle, Nishuane Brook in the southeast, the Wigwam Brook in the southwest, Pearl Brook in the northwest, and Yantacaw Brook in the upper east – all in the Passaic River watershed. Yantacaw and Toney’s creeks are dammed in parks to make lakes. Wigwam, Nishuane, and Toney’s streams stream into the Second River, and the others rush into the Third River. Montclair lies only north of the northernmost degree of the Rahway River watershed.

Montclair fringes the regions of Bloomfield, Cedar Grove, Glen Ridge, Orange, Verona and West Orange in Essex County; and Clifton and Little Falls in Passaic County.

The southern fringe of Montclair is a straight line between Eagle Rock, on the edge of the First Watchung Mountain, and where Orange Road starts at the foot of Ridgewood Avenue. The eastern outskirt is about a straight line between that point and a point only southwest of where Broad Street crosses the Third River. The western outskirt generally runs along the edge of the First Watchung Mountain between Eagle Rock and the Essex County/Passaic County fringe. The northern boundary is the outskirt between those two areas.
