How can a pregnant woman prevent melasma from getting worse?
All the skin pigmentation caused by melasma will soon disappear after the delivery. but you can also do some precautions to minimize the spots during pregnancy
->Using sunscreen:
Sunscreen act as a barrier between you and the sun which reduces Ultraviolet ray exposure with help in triggering melasma. Using a broad spectrum sunscreen cream which has a minimum of SPF 30 and above.
->using of hypoallergenic skin care products:
Most cleansers and skin care products available on the market can irritate your skin and worsens so try to find skincare that is not hypoallergenic Use hypoallergenic skin care products.
Do you still have melasma after delivery?
->melasma mostly disappears without any kind of clinical treatment after giving birth to your baby. But it takes around 8 to 12 months to completely fade away.
->If you are bothered about the spots after delivery of your baby consult a dermatologist. He/she may suggest some kind of topical medication that has Retin-A or azelaic acid.
->If you are breastfeeding your child or planning to pregnant again lets the dermatologists know about it so that he/she may suggest over-the-counter products other than a chemical peel.
->Don’t expect instant results because it takes time to show off but if you need instant results you can try laser treatments and laser should not be considered as the first option .you can choose only after you feed up with a topical application.
->Don’t forget to cover your skin from the sun with protecting gear or sunscreen because sun exposure will increase the recovery time from melasma.
