In this series of his brilliant new book, Intensity: Inside Liverpool, Our Identity, Lijnders talks about the group of leaders within the team and the role that Trent Alexander-Arnold could play in the future. Only 48 hours remained before the start of the match at Norwich, two days before the start of the season. “If we play the way we trained today, we will fly,” Milner said after practice. Problem with such sessions? This greatly complicates the selection of the first 11.
We’ve seen the benefits of a full six weeks of preparation for a season – if people want to improve the game and its quality, they should think about it more often. That evening, Jurgen sent me a message with the results of the vote in the players’ committee. There were three spots left behind our Captain Hendo, Vice-Captain Milner and leader Virgil.
I was glad to find that Trent was at home! Our future captain was one step closer – now he must stay close to Milner to learn as much as possible during this year, because this is the next step in his development. Robbo and Ali were the other two members of the players’ committee.
Trent asked me to meet before the start of the season to chat, and we sat for an hour discussing his game. One of the main things he wanted to talk about was making sure Jürgen and I knew he wanted to be involved now and not be left out because he was young or maybe a little less loud before games than others. I answered the boss, Trent is in the TOP, he represents our club so much.
Even at the age of 15, he had a real natural technical talent. He had all the qualities that I liked so much: the attitude to win, the passion for improvement, but sometimes his emotions took over, and he was not in control of emotions.
He trained with such strength and rivalry. Step by step he grew into the wonderful guy he is now, surrounded by a wonderful family, he created this excellent personality. He has this aggression in a positive way. If anyone represents this Bill Shankly quote, it’s him: Playing at the highest level is not a pressure, it’s a reward.
Liverpool finds ‘new Andres Iniesta’ as Trent Alexander
Liverpool assistant Pep Linders has named the player he believes shares similar traits with Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta in his new book due out next month. Along with Jurgen Klopp, few have been more influential in Liverpool’s recent success than German right-hand man Pep Lijnders. The Reds’ assistant manager helped follow some of the greatest moments in the club’s illustrious history, including ending a 30-year wait for an elusive Covid-affected 2019/2020 league title.
In their four years at Merseyside, Lijnders have also seen some of the most gifted players don the famous red shirts in front of the Kop fans and now look to coach Liverpool’s next generation of superstars for at least the next two years. after Klopp’s recent contract extension.
One of these young stars appears as Harvey Elliot. The former Fulham talent has long been regarded as one of the most promising young players in English football and his reputation has only improved since joining the Reds. Liverpool No. 2 touted Elliot’s talent in his new book, Intensity: Inside Liverpool, and drew a particularly bold comparison when analyzing the teenager’s talent.
“There’s nothing like it in football, but Harvey Elliott has some of Andres Iniesta’s traits and he thinks like a creative midfielder.”
Elliot wasn’t the only figure to receive huge praise, red’s right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold also received several compliments from a manager who has worked closely with some of the biggest names in the game. I’ve also been fortunate to have worked with some of the continent’s top talent, including our very own Trent Alexander-Arnold, Linders added. Trent is the epitome of a successful learning and coaching process with young talent.
“I am very proud of the person and the player he has become, from my under-16 captain to one of the best players in the world who has won every major club medal possible by the age of 23. Even at the age of 15, he was a real technical talent.”
While the England international’s talent is undeniable, Lijnders provided insight into what drives Alexander-Arnold and the mentality that ensures the right-back stays at the top of the game for years to come. For more to know about Liverpool Football Tickets Click here.
MIDFIELDER MARC LEONARD SIGNS ON SEASON LONG LOAN
Northampton Town have signed Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Mark Leonard on a season-long loan. The highly ranked Leonard, who has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs in the EFL and abroad, has made two first-team appearances for Brighton in the League Cup, starting with victories over Cardiff City and Swansea City in the 2021/22 competition.
He also played four Papa John’s Trophy games for the Seagulls, one of which was against the Cobblers at the Sixfields last November. Under-21 Scot Leonard began his career at the Glasgow Rangers academy before joining Hearts. He then moved to Brighton in 2018 and impressed with his under-21 and under-23 performances.
Mark is a highly respected player, said manager John Brady. He is a central midfielder who can also play as an attacking midfielder. this is another tribute to the work we do with young players and the club’s reputation in the game.
“Mark has performed very well and as he develops; he will benefit from the season playing senior football. Mark can be good for us and we can be good for him – we think this is a move that will benefit all parties. already played for Sixfields for Brighton last season but it will be nice to see him here again, but this time in a Northampton Town jersey!”
