Know How to Get an Emergency Passport and an Expedited Passport
It’s fine to go through the normal passport application process when applying for a US passport. If you aren’t traveling soon, the four- to six-week wait is usually acceptable.
If you don’t have the time, you have two options: an expedited passport application and an emergency passport.
Let’s first discuss how to apply for an expedited passport. If you need your passport quicker than the regular passport application, this is the type you would typically use.
An expedited passport is the best option if you are unable to wait for routine passport processing. The processing time for expedited passports is usually two to three weeks, compared to the usual process.
Because routine passport applications can take up to six weeks to process, it is recommended that travelers who must leave the country within ten weeks of their application be expedited by the US Department of State. Some people wait for up to three weeks. It is an improvement over the routine application.
If you are traveling outside the US in less than two weeks, your US passport application must be expedited. If you need your passport in less than four weeks to apply for a foreign visa, expedited applications may be recommended.
For emergencies, you can’t wait for two to three more weeks. You cannot afford to wait for your loved ones and should be there immediately.
The US Department of State issues emergency passports for its citizens in times of family emergency. Anyone who is in a family emergency outside the country and must travel within 48 hours or less can apply for this passport. If you are in this type of situation, you can apply for an emergency passport.
How do you apply for an emergency passport now? If you are stranded with your family in an emergency, you can contact the National Passport Information Agency. This agency handles emergency passport applications.
You can reach the agency at any hour of the day because of the nature and importance of their work. If you are unable to make an appointment, you can speak with a customer service representative, who will be able to provide further assistance.
If you are in urgent need of a United States passport and can’t afford the regular passport application, the two options we have mentioned above are available to you. A standard expedited passport application will work for most people. In cases of family emergencies, however, an expedited passport application may be required.
And, if you need an emergency passport in San Antonio, you can contact the Texas Passport Center. Apart from buying a new passport, we offer many other passport services. You can renew your passport, add pages to your passport or change your name. We can also provide a passport for a minor.
