How to Reach Everest Base Camp from Kathmandu

Everest base camp is a well-known mountain base camp and the most demanded travelling destination in the world. There are lots of visitors every high trekking season to visit Everest base camp from all over the world. There are a few options of reaching Everest base camp from Kathmandu.

You have multiple options to go to the Everest base camp as via land or sky. Trekking to the Everest base camp is a popular option to reach the bottom of the world’s highest mountain. There are numerous trekking itineraries to reach Kala Patthar from Kathmandu. Driving to Jiri and Salleri from Kathmandu and start the trek are the longer hiking itineraries. Lukla to Everest base camp trek starting with a short flight from Kathmandu is the main trip plan which is following by most of the visitors.

Jiri to Everest Base Camp

 

Driving to Jiri from Kathmandu and trek to EBC is a classic trekking route. All the trekkers should start the trip from Jiri when there was not an airport in Lukla. There are only a few people use this route nowadays. It is a long trip, so many trekkers might not have a long holiday.

Salleri to Everest Base Camp

Salleri route is also a long trip plan begin from Kathmandu driving on a jeep. It is the new hiking route then Jiri and Lukla. Salleri route will have more hikers compared to the Jiri route because of it is a few days shorter and less climbing trails. People who scare with flying to Lukla and have a long vacation it is suitable for them.

Trekking route from Lukla is the most popular than the others. It is a 12 days trip which starts with a short scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. After landing at Lukla airport, the trip goes ahead to Phakding on the first day and treks to Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche and Gorakshep before reaching the base camp. Then the trip descends backwards following the same route which has taken on the way up.

If you don’t have enough time for a 12 days trek, you can make it in 9 days. A 9 days trip is helicopter return trek that you don’t need to walk back to Lukla after visiting the base camp and Kala Patthar. You can directly fly from the base camp to Kathmandu on a helicopter.

  1. It is a great post. Thank you very much for the information. We actually have 3 days in Kathmandu when we are travelling to Bhutan via Nepal in April. I did not know about the helicopter tour to the base camp. Now this post makes me easier to reach the base camp with our short visit in Nepal.
