How to Prepare the Ground Before Laying Artificial Grass

Fake grass saves you time and maintenance costs. If you plan on installing artificial grass, here’s what you need to do to get the property ready. After all, once the crew gets there, you want them to start working immediately. You’ll need to prep the site to make that happen. Go over the list to learn more. 

Take Out the Clutter

Before the crew gets there, it would help if you remove everything in the area. Are there plants or household items? Is there gym equipment? Clear everything out of that space so that once the crew gets there, they can start prepping the site. They can’t do that if they still need to help you move your things around or transfer them elsewhere. However, some crews offer that service. You’ll want to talk to the company beforehand to reach an agreement. 

Choose Which Grass

Before the fake grass installation, make sure you’ve explored your options. Which artificial greens are an excellent match for your property, budget, and needs? The option that comes the closest to hitting the mark on those three things should be on top of your list. Be sure to consider the future maintenance of the material. Find out how you can properly take care of the greens so that the grass will last a long time.  

Clear the Ground 

If possible, it would also help if you pluck any weeds, plant growth, or grass. Are there stones, rocks, or debris? If your garden is a mess, you may want to start clearing them all little by little. Hiring the company to remove it can also work. But make sure you ask if they offer that assistance in the first place. Some companies may offer that service, but only it’s been arranged in advance. 

Transfer Plants 

Do you have plants in the area? You’ll want to transfer them to a different part of the property. If that’s not a priority and it’s all right to eliminate any of the plants, try using a herbicide. Look for a drainage site. You want to prepare the ground by putting down artificial grass; part of that is preparing the drainage. Water pooling on the turfs will lead to several problems you want to avoid. That’s why the location of the drainage is crucial. If the spot is relatively high, that means pooling won’t be a problem, so that is something you want to pay attention to. 

Stop the Weeds

The last step is to prevent weeds from growing again in the ground. You’ve already taken them out. This time, you must make sure they don’t comeback. That’s where you should put a weed barrier over the base. Look for quality options. Once that’s done, you’re ready for the crew to arrive.
