How long does it take to get braces?
Typically, the actual process of sitting in the chair and having the braces put on your teeth is completed in 35 minutes. Afterwards, we will spend quite a bit of time with you explaining how to care for them, how to clean them.
So, the appointment that we schedule for you is longer than 45 minutes, but part of that is coaching you and explaining what is happening during the process. And although we are not in a hurry, the actual visit is shorter than you anticipate. Braces Chelsea
What are some common problems patients may experience with braces?
One common issue with braces is a broken metal bracket. These are placed with a removable adhesive so the braces can be removed, but sometimes these brackets will break. If this happens, the fix is you come see us for a visit, we remove the bracket, and re-bond it.
Another common issue is what we call the pokey wire. With a metal or ceramic set of braces, the wires we begin treatment with are small and light. And these light wires can have sharp ends. Inevitably sometimes these wires need clipping and bending so they don’t poke your mouth.
What types of appliances are there?
Full braces are considered fixed appliances. These are braces bonded to the teeth that we use to complete the tooth movements that we want to achieve. Following treatment, we also provide retainers, which are designed to minimize teeth movement post treatment. Orthodontist Narrows
We do use other appliances for patients that may have a cross bite, and sometimes we use palette expanders. There are also a number of different mouth-piece type appliances that some patients may require. But primarily, most of our patients receive braces and retainers.
Invisible aligners have become very popular over the last decade. The technology has improved significantly. What we are able to treat with invisible aligners has improved as well. These are an option for many patients. We discuss this with you as to whether or not you may be a good candidate for a clear aligner.
