How do I obtain a personal license for alcohol?
The personal license guarantees that anyone operating or overseeing a company that sells or delivers alcohol will do it skillfully. You can serve as the designated premises supervisor for any company that sells or supplies alcohol once you have your personal license. A DPS is required for all premises licences, including those for major pubs and home-based web retailers.
Similar to how a driver’s licence enables you to operate a vehicle, a personal licence enables you to sell alcohol on behalf of any licenced businesses.
Although a personal licence is not required for employment in a bar or other establishment serving alcoholic beverages, it improves your chances of finding work. A designated premises supervisor with a personal licence is required for locations with alcohol sales licences.

Requirements to Apply
- You must be 18 years of age.
- BIIAB Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders, or any equivalent recognised certification, to apply. You must first earn an approved qualification to apply for a personal licence. Documents to Provide for Personal Licence

You will need the following:
- Two passport-sized photographs must be attested by a “professional person.”
- Personal Licence Holder Qualification certificate
- A less than one-month-old Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Basic Check. You can make a personal alcohol licence course.
- A declaration that is less than a month old from the police national database.

- £37 fee. This can be paid for by phone, check, or online. You need to provide it with your application form as a payment authorisation number.
- Candidates must now present proof of their permission to work in the UK due to recent modifications made to the application process by the central government.

Steps to apply for a Personal Licence
- Enrol in an APLH Personal Licence Course
You can take the course from the convenience of your home because it is an online course. You can also take the course in a particular location if you prefer. The APLH training lasts for one day and contains 40 multiple-choice question tests. After completing the course, you will receive the Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders (RQF) certificate.
- Complete the Online Application Form
Fill out and submit the personal licence qualification You must provide your licencing qualifications and information about any prior or pending applications when you apply for a personal licence.
- Disclosure of Convictions and Declaration

You must inform your licencing authorities of changes, such as those to your name or address. The organisation that issued your licence is always your licencing authority. This service costs £10.50.
