Cults exploded in the 1990s as the New Millennium approached. As the year 2000 loomed, doomsday prophecies concerning The Bible and aliens rose in popularity, as did doomsday cults that preached the end was nigh. The Heaven’s Gate cult was one of these, ending in the largest mass-suicide on US soil.
