Dehradun is located in India’s Uttarakhand state. The story of Dehradun is a tale and myth. One story claims Drona, a royal guru of Pandavas from the epic Mahabharata, founded the city. Another story says that Raibhran (a Rajput chieftain) founded the city. He named it Darahad in his honor. No matter its origins or history, Dehradun has always been strategic because it lies at the crossroads for two major trade routes. Dehradun (now Uttarakhand’s capital) was the capital in Uttaranchal from 2000 to 2006.
