The statement did not say how many Chinese marketing staff Grand Korea Leisure used or how many remained.

Grand Korea Leisure is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization and is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said in a release that 40 public corporations involved in overseas operations, including Grand Korea Leisure, will be subject to some operational efficiencies, citing "efficiency" due to "lack of business and demand" for their services.

In the case of Grand Korea Leisure, the announcement specifically mentioned the "long-term downturn in the Chinese market."

Even before the pandemic, China had been pushing for a crackdown on its citizens" cross-border gambling.

Grand Korea Leisure, in a comment to GGRAsia, noted that the suspension of outbound tourism in China due to the COVID-19 pandemic had been a factor in curtailing its Chinese marketing team.

The company said it needed to assess how China\'s outbound travel situation unfolded before deciding on the extent of its marketing cuts.

Regarding Japan, Grand Korea Leisure told GGRA Asia that it has closed its Hiroshima and Sapporo offices since March 2022 and that it will not "resume." In contrast, Grand Korea Leisure added that it has been expanding its activities in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka since October this year.

Grand Korea Leisure recovered its profit in the third quarter, showing sequential growth in the company\'s casino net sales and gambling visitors.

The company operates three foreigner-only, seven-luck-branded casinos. Two are in the capital city of Seoul, including Gangnam (photo), and one is in the southeastern port city of Busan.

The group will close its concert hall in Gangbuk, Seoul, inside the Millennium Hilton Hotel on Dec. 30, and move its game operations to Dragon City, Seoul, from Dec. 31.
