Goyang Sono completes player registration… Lee Jung-hyun gets 150% raise
Second-year guard Lee Jung-hyun becomes the highest-paid player in the league.
The Goyang Sono Skygunners (head coach Lee Ki-wan) completed their player registration for the 2023-24 KBL season on July 25, concluding negotiations with players on July 8. The team’s total compensation is 2.375 billion won, or 85% of the salary cap.
The highest paid player in the organization is Jeon Sung-hyun, who joined the team as a free agent last year with a total compensation of 750 million won and a four-year contract. Jeon lived up to his price tag in the 22-23 season, helping the team reach the top four of the playoffs.
Along with Jeon, Lee Jung-hyun, who contributed the most to the team, was recognized for his value by signing for 200 million won, a 150% increase from his 80 million won total last year. Lee also finished third in the KBL in total contributions last season, and his best performance earned him a spot on the national team for the Hangzhou Asian Games following his representation at the Universiade.
“It feels good to be recognized by a new team, but there is also pressure,” Lee said, “I will do my best to show satisfactory play and improve my personal contribution from last season.”
Kim Jin-yu, who was dubbed Superman for the 토토 2022-23 season, also agreed to a 63% increase in his contract to 130 million won (80 million won in the previous year) to prepare for the upcoming season. Kim also became the first player to earn a billion-dollar salary after his debut.
Meanwhile, the Goyang Sono will begin their first practice game against Sungkyunkwan University at 4 p.m. on October 10 at the Goyang Sono Arena Auxiliary Stadium.
